Welcome!

I'm so glad you're here and taking this step toward healing and growth.

My name is Kristine Tarmann, and I am the owner and founder of KT Art Therapy, PLLC. Upon earning my Master's Degree in Art Therapy with a concentration in Counseling from Mount Mary University in 2019, I moved to Colorado to pursue continuing my career. I am a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC), and often find myself interweaving my education and experience to best meet client needs!

I initially came to this work from a small town community where I experienced stigma and misunderstanding surrounding mental health. An intense curiosity around this misunderstanding, alongside a deep passion in the intersection between art, science, people, and storytelling brought me to art therapy.

I also enjoy supporting the next generation of therapists, so I split my time between seeing clients and supervising interns and clinicians working towards licensure. If you are a new clinician looking for supervision, please check out my Supervision page.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time reading, cooking, creating, being outside, or hanging out with loved ones, especially my cat, Danny Phantom (pictured here!).

Who I Love Working With

I work with adults, adolescents, and couples.

My heart is particularly drawn to supporting:

  • Anyone navigating grief, loss, death, and end-of-life concerns, including death anxiety

  • Neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD

  • Members of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Individuals recovering from addiction, navigating sobriety/moderation, or wanting to further explore their relationship with substance use

  • Anyone wanting to heal from trauma, including complex and relational traumas

I also regularly support clients dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, communication issues, and identity exploration.

I am only able to see clients in the State of Colorado at this time. I offer both in-person and telehealth options, with a preference towards in-person sessions due to the nature of art therapy. Telehealth services are considered on an as-appropriate basis.

How We'll Work Together

I'm here to offer you a genuinely safe, warm, and non-judgmental space where your unique journey is honored. I truly believe you are the expert of your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you—meeting you exactly where you are—to help you discover and build the life that aligns with your deepest goals and values.

I believe authenticity is the heart of our work. When we can be real with each other, it creates an environment where deep healing and self-understanding can truly flourish. Whether you're expressing yourself through words, art, or just sitting in silence, your exploration will always be met with warmth, gentle curiosity, and supportive feedback.

My therapy approach is collaborative, eclectic, and flexible in order to best meet your needs. A core part of my practice is art therapy, which offers a powerful way to express and process feelings when words aren't enough.

Alongside art therapy, I often weave in other modalities including:

  • Person-Centered and Relational approaches (focusing on collaboration and connection)

  • Trauma-Informed care

  • Existential therapy

  • Somatic experiencing

  • Skills from ACT, mindfulness, IFS, and CBT

Ultimately, my hope is that our work together helps you forge a new, more sustainable path toward lasting happiness, healing, and growth!

About Art Therapy

Art therapy is a mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

Especially when people are struggling, facing a challenge, or even a health crisis —their own words or language fails them. During these times, an art therapist can help clients express themselves in ways beyond words or language. Art therapists are trained in art and psychological theory and can help clients integrate nonverbal cues and metaphors that are often expressed through the creative process.

Art therapy is particularly effective during times of crisis, changes in circumstance, trauma, and grief. It allows us to express when words may not be enough.

And to answer the most popular question: No, you don't need to be good at art to do art therapy! You do not need to have prior experience in order to participate. Art therapy is much more about the process rather than the product, and you will never be critiqued on your artwork.

Finding the right therapist for you can be a journey! If you would like to see if we are a good fit, please reach out to me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
